Pre-Ramadan Party

Every year many of our young people observe Ramadan, and this year we decided to formalise the celebration in our own calendar and host a Pre-Ramadan Party on Mach 14. Our Young Leaders Amadou, Mo, and Jalal brought their supreme culinary skills to the table and cooked warm dishes, soups, pakoras, rice, and more to share with everyone in our community. It was an evening of warmth and nourishment for the belly and soul and preparation for the month+ ahead.

We know that our numbers will drop every Ramadan due to young people’s reduced energy from fasting and their need to pray, and we adjust our expectations accordingly. Our space transforms into one more focused on quiet connection; the music elements are removed to another space where non-observing young people can engage freely, while the main room is preserved as a quiet and reflective space for those who want to connect with our community but remain observant.

Every year we find that this change of pace helps us to feel and observe the oncoming of spring with grounding and space, when otherwise it might be overwhelming after our often cold and extended winters. Conveniently, this year Ramadan ends the first week we return after the Spring Holidays, and you can bet the energy will mount swiftly from Eid onwards as we dive into our summer term. Ramadan Mubarak / Ramadan Kareem everyone!
