Outing to Exhibition & British Library

As part of our efforts to support our young people in gaining confidence to access London’s cultural spaces, we headed to the area around Kings Cross Station last week. To start, we visited our exhibition (see Kalila Wa Dimna: Ancient Tales for Troubled Times) so that the young people could take pride in seeing their work displayed publicly. It was joyful to see their delight and surprise at seeing their artwork, and at watching members of the public pass by and take note.

Next we went next door to visit the British Library, where we were all blown away by the global focus of their “Treasures” exhibition. We were able to see ancient Amharic, Arabic, English, German, French, and more, and we all walked away having learned something.

We also explored the art works that exist within St Pancras Station and it made us realise how much art is hidden in public places in London. Hopefully we will all make a greater effort to mindfully notice all of the art that surrounds us every day.

Most importantly, though, we built memories together, and named spaces where our young people can find peace, safety, and opportunity in this busy and loud city.
