April Team Training

This terms’ trauma training focus was on responding well to conflict, which was explored through themes of connection and pause. We reflected on how we individually respond to conflict by reflecting on our own ‘window of tolerance’.

When outside of our window of tolerance we disconnect from self and others, whether that’s expressed as hyper-vigilance or hypo-vigilance. This window of tolerance can be impacted by trauma, violence, oppression, silencing and stress.

How do we at Play for Progress create connection with and between the young people that we work with? It’s from this place of safety and connection that we can expand our window of tolerance and develop the resilience to cope with multiple personal and systemic challenges that arise on a daily basis.

Our Head of Therapeutic Practice, Becky Finlay Hall, led us through the day with a series of embodied practices, with breath and bodywork to demonstrate its power of ground us, co-regulate us, and connect us. As Kae Tempest reminds us, “If we can’t even notice violence in ourselves, let alone root it out, how can we expect to dismantle it in the culture at large”
